THE MIND CAN LIE, MAYBE IT DOES. BUT THE BODY NEVER LIES

THE MIND CAN LIE, MAYBE IT DOES. BUT THE BODY NEVER LIES

THE MIND CAN LIE, MAYBE IT DOES. BUT THE BODY NEVER LIES Photography, drawing, drawing on photography, video film and objects In many of my projects, I try to illuminate the experiences of migration, social, and political determinations, racism, and alienation and bring them out of hiding. The experiences made by people, especially women, play an essentiel role. I connect them with my biography. My work deals with, public and everyday life experiences of people whose possibilities to shape their own lives are questioned, or even denied to them. Out of a supposed attachment to archaic or/and religious tradition, girls and women are often forced to live within boundaries drawn by undemocratic authorities. As a result, human life exposed to such circumstances is fundamentally and permanently irreparably damaged by physical and psychological violence. Through body language, invisible cages become visible to me and thus the often missing words. In my works, this speechlessness takes physical form, they reflect the resulting injuries. As a witness of time, I use my main hair, which has fallen out in recent years, continuously falling out and growing back. The meaning I attach to this hair is complex. Here I raise the question: How political may our hair be, may women’s hair be? This is reflected in the aesthetics of images, the feelings of isolation, loneliness, or silence. The emotional impact is at the forefront of all my projects. While I try to process the political, religious and family oppression, as well as the expectations of the cultural environment that emanates from the place of my origin, with the forces of artistic expression. I feel the sadness, the presence of this stuckness in different regions of the world. Especially in the societies that we consider civilized today, this stuckness and backwardness are felt more than ever. Where the spoken word reaches its limits, the universal language of art plays an elementary role in understanding reality. I work with different techniques to give the respective topic the necessary presence and depth. These can be photographs, films, videos, sculptures, or paintings. With my works, I want to raise awareness of human emotions and behaviours in an aesthetic and authentic way and give women a voice.
